Jordan Boyd was 16.
The QMJHL issued a statement moments later, advising that it was “informed of the incident and is working in collaboration with the team to bring the necessary support to the parents and players in these difficult times. Jordan Boyd had a complete medical evaluation prior to the camp and didn’t seem to have any medical problems that prevented him from participating. We are waiting for the hospital’s autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. We offer our deepest condolences to his loved ones.”
Boyd, a 5-11, 165-pound forward, was a fourth-round pick (66th overall) of the Titan in this year’s draft. He played last season with Rothesay Netherwood (New Brunswick) prep school, where he had 17 goals and 39 points in 41 games. The Bedford, Nova Scotia native led the team to a varsity division silver medal in the inaugural World Sport School Challenge last spring.
