The early reviews are in…and the NHL’s decision to go with Metropolitan Division for the new eight-team grouping that includes the three New York-area teams, along with Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Carolina, Columbus and Washington, is generating more laughs than “Grown Ups 2.”

Here’s what some of the finest minds in social media have to say about the NHL’s inspired decision:

The first time the NHL has to print a banner that says Metropolitan Division Champs, that's when they'll look at it and say, "Ok..that name DOES suck!"

Metropoliitan division teams will only sign metrosexual free agents.

Why didn't the league pull in the division names of the past: Norris, Smythe, Adams and Patrick??

yeah and god help the poor schlops that have to cover the 1st two rounds of the playoffs as remember also there is also a new playoff structure as well for the new season where it's the top 4 teams in each dvision 1vs4 2vs3, so they will have to go welcome to 1st round of the metroplotain dvision semi finals

By the way, I think LA, Boston, Detroit, and Chicago (I could go on) will be very surprised to hear they’re not “Metropolitan.”

In other news, Columbus was surprised to hear they are. ;)

@Beej Columbus may not be as big as the others you listed, but over 1.9 million people live in the Columbus metro area.
