I talked to a few Bruins fans the day after that heartbreaking loss in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup. They were disappointed, and still maybe a little stunned, but to a man they recognized that Chicago was the class of the league and that the Blackhawks were deserving champions.

Turns out they’re the class of the league off the ice as well.

This morning, team chairman Rocky Wirtz and president John McDonough signed a full-page open letter in the Boston Globe, addressed to the Bruins and the city of Boston. You can read it in its entirety above.

As hard fought as it was, that series was played with integrity. Clean, intense, an all-out effort. No matter which side you were pulling for — or if you didn’t have a dog in the fight — it was six nights that made you proud to be a hockey fan.

This gesture from the ‘Hawks should make us all feel that same pride again.

Well done, boys.

Unfortunately, there were many Bruins fan at that last game that also gave the city a bad name by booing the Hawks during the ceremony.  The Bruins had already left the ice, so they can't use that as an excuse.  I am neither a Bruins nor a Hawks fan, but it always disappoints me that fans can't show true class and, even though your team lost and the other team is celebrating, at least show respect and give them the credit that they deserve.

I bet he wouldn't have sent it if Chicago lost the series.

Well done Blackhawks. I'm one of the many Bruins fans that were sad when our team lost but we lost to a great team in a spirited series. See ya next season Hawks!

@AlainLapointe Sounds like a typical whining Habs fan. At least they don't flop all over the ice like the pansies in MTL.
