Another game, another officiating kerfuffle.
The Chicago Blackhawks appeared to have added to their 1-0 lead in the first period of Game 2 when a wraparound attempt by Jonathan Toews was rebuffed by Tuukka Rask, but Marian Hossa appeared to have tucked the rebound under the goatender’s pads and just over the line. The play was blown dead by referee Wes McCauley, who had position behind the net…but had the puck crossed the line first?
After a lengthy review, the call on the ice stood.
The NHL’s official explanation: “The referee had blown the play dead prior to Chicago Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa pushing the goaltender’s pads …”
In other words, the Hawks were robbed by a quick whistle.
At the end of one, the score is still 1-0, Chicago.
